ASTOR IS A PEBBLE THAT SOMEONE PLACED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE CITY. A soft circle with imperfect borders, one lip is swept, as if worn out over time. Its colors — deep gray and beige — are reminiscent of a contrast between a wet pavement and an ancient concrete wall. THE CARPET IS HAND-WOVEN FROM ONLY NATURAL MATERIALS, WHILE MAINTAINING A UNIFORM TEXTURE AND SUBTLE SHADING BETWEEN SHADES. He is not shouting, but he is present. Like a memory sunk into the pavement. Gadi Carmel's design was born out of listening to the material as it falls apart -- and then rebuilt.
